Introduction to Physical Literacy for B.C. Educators



This course introduces the concept of physical literacy, provides information about how we learn to move, and identifies the key elements of a supportive physical literacy environment. Rationale and Learning Outcomes Upon completion of the course, you will be able to: Explain the concept of physical literacy Describe the relationship between physical literacy, physical activity, and physical fitness Identify the general course of motor skill (movement) development in childhood and the approximate age of adult proficiency Describe the relationship between the development of movement competence, confidence, and motivation, in support of physical literacy development Identify key elements of a supportive physical literacy environment Recognize that physical literacy activities must be accessible and inclusive Describe and diagram a physical literacy life journey When you have completed the entire course and passed each learning assessment, you will be able to download/print a Certificate of Completion and for coaches maintaining their certification, obtain NCCP professional development points towards it. The course will take about an hour to complete. Physical Literacy Instructor Program This course is the first module in the Physical Literacy Instructor Program.The program has four modules which combine text based information, video, interactive elements, and in-person workshops for the learner to acquire the knowledge and understanding to develop physical literacy. Introduction to Physical Literacy (This course) HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development or HIGH FIVE Sport (in-person workshop) NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills (in-person workshop) Sport for Life Quality Physical Literacy Experiences & Program Evaluation (in-person workshop) Learners are required to successfully complete all parts and related learning activities to receive a certificate of completion.
